Even though the tour is short in terms of duration, it highlights the most famous attractions close to Ulaanbaatar - the awe-inspiring Erdenezuu Monastery, Hustai National Park tour to see the last survival of earth’s wild horses, and the northern edge of the Gobi desert in Elsentasarkhai. Erdenezuu Monastery was built on ancient capital Kharakhorum's site in the broad valley of the Orkhon River, the UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site because the valley is rich in historical remains ranging from prehistoric times to the present day. The Hustai National Park is one of the few places where you can see wild horses in nature. A nomad family visit, local food tasting with nomads, and horse and camel riding are authentic experiences.
Itinerary
Day 1: Visit nomads, horse and camel riding in Elsentasarkhai
Your guide and driver meet you at your accommodation/airport/ train station and start the adventure driving to Kharkhorin via Elsentasarkhai. Elsentasarkhai is a picturesque place representing features of the Gobi desert, mountain steppes, and grasslands in a single area. On our way, we will break for a short by sand dunes. Except for enjoying the natural beauty, you can ride camels through the sand dunes at the base of private payment. Next, we visit a nomad family, have local food for lunch and enjoy horse riding on the steppes. Continue the driving to Kharkhorin with the views of changing landscapes and countless animals of nomads. Kharkhorin, formerly known as Kharakhorum, was capital of Genghis Khaan's Great Mongol Empire in the 13th century. After the move of the capital to the present-day Beijing, and the fall of the Empire, Karakorum was abandoned and then destroyed by Min soldiers in 1388.

Day 2: Visit Erdenezuu monastery, the Kharakhorum Museum and see wild horses in Hustai National Park
Erdenezuu is the first and the largest monastery in Mongolia was built using old materials of the destroyed city Kharakhorum in 1586. Visit the monastery museum to ee some valuable religious items in the temples and view its stunning architecture. You also visit an active temple to attend the morning chant of the monks. Next, visit the Kharakhorum Museum displays items of ancient city Kharakhorum. Our today’s trip will continue to Hustai National Park. Visit a small museum of the national park, watch a short documentary about the wild horses and the national park. In the evening we will drive to the national park’s core zone to see the wild horses.

Is Hustai National Park & Kharkhorin Tour suitable for you?
This is a regular tour includes two overnight stays at ger camps in the countryside. No hard physical or challenging activities include. You will have 1-2 hours of horse riding with the support of your guide and a local equestrian. People who have no previous riding experience may ride the horses gently led by the equestrian. Traveling in Mongolia always require long driving through changing landscapes and scenic views. Erdenezuu Monastery locates 360 km from Ulaanbaatar. Luckily, all the driving takes place on the paved roads.
Meals
Tour meals are included according to the itinerary. In the countryside, ger camps serve occasional European but mainly Mongolian meals. Meat is the main ingredient for meals and is served for lunch and dinner along with vegetables, salads, and soups. There will be more meat in traditional Mongolian meals. A typical breakfast is tea or coffee, bread, jam, butter, eggs, and sausage. There are some cookies, cheese, cereals, pancakes and more at some of the ger camps for breakfast. For lunch, meals include salads, Mongolian soups and the main course (pasta, rice, vegetables, beef/mutton/chicken/fish near lakes/rivers), and dessert and tea. Salads, a main course, a dessert, and tea will be served for dinner. With nomads, you will try authentic Mongolian meals. Different types of meals offered simultaneously are not customary in the Mongolian tradition. If you are a vegetarian or have other dietary restrictions, please inform us in advance, and we will make arrangements accordingly. We will supply two 0.5L bottles of water a day. Accommodation
Mongolian tourism depends on the season, and seasonal accommodation ger camps are fully open between 10 May and 5 October. During other shoulder months, the ger camps are partially open and closed in winter. Even though, the tour is available all year round with locally run small hotels and nomad family stay. Guides
The majority of our company's guides are English speaking. We also have guides who speak German, French, Spanish, and Japanese. They are all friendly, helpful and most of them were born and raised in the Mongolian countryside. Therefore, they have good knowledge about every aspect of Mongolia and have at least three years or more years of guiding experience. During the camel riding, a local guide will support you.
Transportation

When is the best time to take this tour??
The most suitable time to take the tour is between 10 May and 5 October. During this period, the weather will be warm and enjoyable. However, the weather in May and September could be chilly. As well as, the rural accommodation ger camps operate during this period. The tour is available with nomad family stays in October and during off-seasons when the ger camps are closed. The average day temperature of summer is +28 °C, and the highest +38°C (June, July, August). The average day temperatures of May and September are +23°C and the highest 32°C. The evening and night temperatures drop by 15 to 20°C. The temperature dramatically falls if it rains. You may have occasional chill wind and snowfalls in May, September, and October.
