Imagine visiting the Reindeer tribe in winter, which resides in the depths of the Taiga forest in the remoteness of northern Mongolia. The reindeer is a crucial living source, giving milk, cheese, meat, antlers, and hide for warm boots. Berries, herbs, nuts, and mushrooms are additional sources of food and medicine.
Picture you waking up in a teepee made of only one layer of canvas on a wood frame, stove fire heats the shelter, boards are the bed, and the outside temperature ranges between -25 to -45 Celcius.
It is not a trip for everyone but an excursion for adventure seekers and nature lovers. Most importantly, the Reindeer tribe excursion is getting popular among travelers from tropical countries!
At the beginning of the trip, you will see the Genghis Khan statue, the tallest equestrian statue in the world. The trans-Mongolian train journey is another highlight of the trip. Afterward, spend two days in a ger camp beside the frozen Khuvsgul Lake. Rough roads of the Taiga mountain valleys lead you to the Reindeer herding Dukha tribe, showing you winter marvels and sceneries of this least traveled remoteness. Exploring the ancient monuments and visiting various-sized towns and villages are part of the journey.
Before heading to Ulaanbaatar, you will see Takhi or Przewalski horses, the earth’s truly wild horses, roaming free in a national park.
