Is this tour suitable for me?

This is a regular tour to explore most exciting attractions and scenic places of central and northern Mongolia. To let you experience and discover much of our beautiful and unique culture country in a relatively short period, we developed the itinerary to be jam-packed with more outdoor activities and attractions. As well as, some drives between the attractions. Luckily, infrastructure developed more in central Mongolia, and more than two third of the travel driving will be taken on the paved roads which help us to have more activities and spend more time at the attractions rather than spending most of our time driving on bumpy roads. Approximate day driving will be 2-6 hours. During the tour, you will stay in ger camps in the countryside and a hotel in Ulaanbaatar. To make your travel more experiential from cultural side, we included 1-day nomad family stay. The tour has not included any demanding physical activities, but some soft hiking of 2-3 hours and an extinct volcano climb which is not exhausting and could be optional for some travelers. The areas the tour takes place elevated 1400 m to 1600 m (above sea level) in average and around 2000 m at Khorgo Terkhiin Tsagaan area. The itinerary includes some horse riding with supports of your guide and local guides.

When is the best time to take the tour?

The most suitable time to travel is between 15 May and 15 September. During this period, the weather will be warm and enjoyable. However, you should not expect warm weather during the trip either you travel in summer or certain times as vast Mongolian territory differentiates in altitude and earth surface. Overall, Mongolia is elevated at least 700 m high above surrounding Siberian plateau and Chinese territory. Therefore, the weather is extreme and fluctuates a lot hourly, daytime and at night. Receiving snow falls is common in May, end of August and September. Rain falls turn into snow falls in high elevated areas either in summer months of June, July and August. Average monthly temperatures are +20°C, highest 28°C daytime in May, first half of June, last half of August and in September and +25°C, highest 35-39°C daytime in June, July and August. The temperature drops 10-20°C in the evening and at nights. The tour is available either in offseason and winter accommodating in local hotels and staying with nomad families. For your pre-departure preparation and an idea to prepare this inflexible weather condition, you may check our detailed packing list.

Accommodation

Due to the weather condition, tourism season in Mongolia is short. Mongolian tourism depends highly on the season and seasonal accommodation ger camps are fully open between 20 May and 10 September. During other shoulder months, the ger camps are partially open and closed in winter. Some of the ger camps accept their clients from 10 May in central Mongolia, and the ger camps are still in the opening phase assembling gers. For more information about the accommodation, please visit recommended hotels in Mongolia and Mongolia Ger camps

There are some cookies, cheese, cereals, pancakes and more will be served at some of the ger camps for breakfast. Some salads, cream/vegetable/ Mongolian soups and main courses (pasta, rice, vegetables, beef/mutton/chicken/fish near lakes/rivers), dessert and tea for lunch. Salad, main course, dessert, and tea will be served for dinner. If you are a vegetarian or have dietary etc. please inform us in advance. We will book the meals accordingly. Guides

The majority of our guides are English speaking. We also have some guides who speak German, French, Spanish and Japanese. They are all professionally trained, friendly, helpful, and most of them were born and grown in the countryside. Therefore, they have good knowledge about their motherland’s culture, tradition, history, and geography. Our guides have minimum three years and more years of guiding experience. During the horse riding, your guide and local equestrian will support you.
